The Side Saddlery
Eldonian the "Mistress" Side Saddle from England
This is a beautiful side saddle built in England by Eldonian on a Champion & Wilton tree. Nicely balanced and reinforced for riding over fences/hunting or on the flat in hunter classes or for dressage.
Eldonian made saddles in England in the 1970s using original, old name trees. This saddle has seen light use since it was built and has been well cared for.
The seat measures 22" from the front of the top pommel to the cantle and 13" wide. It is a medium saddle measuring 7" between the D rings for the breast collar and 16" between the points, all measured to the actual tree.
The saddle has serge panels. The panels are in is in good condition with the exception of a small hole on a non-weightbearing surface. This does not affect its function at all. The panels were flocked/regulated by Sue Tobin of Sidesaddle Heaven for a good, balanced ride. The overgirth has slight wear and one rough edge, but again very sound condition.
The saddle plate on the cantle reads "Mistress" - was that the name of the saddle, the horse, or for whom the saddle was purchased?
The saddle has a doekin seat and pommels. D rings are present for your breast collar and D rings for your sandwich case. The saddle has a Mayhew breakaway assembly. It comes with a vintage, correct stirrup leather with some wear, the correct Mayhew-style breakaway fitting and a vintage egg eye stirrup. Girth and balance strap are easily purchased separately through The Side Saddlery, if required.
It will be hard to find such a nice, medium width hunting/showing saddle again at this price!
